Germain Racing to switch manufacturers in 2012

Bob Germain, the owner of Germain Racing, told Dave Moody that the team will be switching manufacturers in 2012. The team fielded Toyotas at the Sprint Cup and Camping World Truck Series levels in 2011 but with Toyota Racing Development (TRD) taking over the engine building in 2012 there simply is not enough motors to go around.

Joe Gibbs Racing and Michael Waltrip Racing will account for all six engines that TRD will produce. Germain had said previously that he had talked with Ford and Chevrolet about running cars under their brands.

Geico will return to the #13 team in 2012 as will driver Casey Mears. Currently the car sits 32nd in owner points. Little has been said about if or how much the #60 car will run at the Sprint Cup level. The car had been operated as a start and park with Mike Skinner for much of the early season before being abandoned recently.

It’s worth noting that Joe Nemechek runs Triad powered motors and will do so in 2012. It’s unclear if the #66 of Prism Motorsports will stay with Toyota next year or not. Redbull Racing who ran Toyotas this year is closing down.
