Home Depot will not sponsor #20 full time

When Carl Edwards was being courted by Joe Gibbs Racing the question was raised as to who would be on the car. Obviously Home Depot but we heard mention of some of Edwards’ current sponsors also appearing on the car.

We’ve heard rumors that Home Depot isn’t thrilled with the results of Joey Logano as the car of rival Lowe’s driven by Jimmie Johnson has won the last five series championships. Even Paul Menards with his fathers home improvement store on the sides has been to victory lane this season.

Still it does raise an eyebrow that Dollar General who had sponsored Nationwide cars of Turner Motorsports in recent years is coming aboard the JGR team. Dollar General will adorn the #20 Sprint Cup car of Logano for 10-12 races according to SceneDaily. In addition they will sponsor the #11 ride of Brian Scott next season.vDollar General will also sponsor some races for Kyle Busch’s truck team.

The partnership of Joe Gibbs Racing and Home Depot dates back to 1999 when they began sponsoring the #20 car of then rookie Tony Stewart. When Stewart left Joe Gibbs racing everyone stayed the same, including crew chief Greg Zipadelli remaining on the pit box. The only exception has been the lack of victories for the #20 car in the last 3 years, winning just a rain shortened event at Loudon in 2009.
