TRG making switch to Ford

Last season TRG banked it’s presence in NASCAR on former Cup Champion Bobby Labonte guaranteeing them a spot in the field. The two split when Labonte complained about the team simply not being competitive. Andy Lally took to the seat but still the team was fighting for top billing on the third tier of NASCAR teams.

The #71 car had been fielding Chevrolet engines again this season but will make the switch to the Ford FR9 engine prior to Texas. Andy Lally will drive the car this week at California, while Hermie Sadler will race it at Martinsville.

Team owner Kevin Buckler said a deal had been in the works for more then a month to acquire cars from Roush-Fenway Racing and engines from Roush Yates Racing Engines. Buckler noted that he was looking forward to being more competitive and that the ultimate goal is to find victory lane.

The car will continue to be sponsored by Super Eco Fuel Saver.

Currently all of the Ford teams on NASCAR’s top level feature engines from Roush Yates Racing Engines.
