Jennifer Jo Cobb qualified the #79 Ford Mustang for 2nd Chance Motorsports but when the green flag dropped she wasn’t in the car. It didn’t take long for questions and cameras to arise and quickly we found out that Cobb and team owner Rick Russell had parted ways.
Cobb had signed an agreement with Russell to drive the first five events on the Nationwide schedule and at the same time opted to field other drivers in her #10 Ford in the Camping World truck series.
The conflict began howev
er when Russell made the decision to turn the weekend into a start and park entry and head to California. Cobb also mentioned that he planned to pull her out of the car for California.
“I have a commitment to my sponsors, my fans, NASCAR that I won’t start and park,” Cobb said. “I’m very serious about my career and my performance, and I’ve worked hard to prove it to everyone. I had already bought tires for the race, so you can imagine that this was a blow to my principles and my finances to get this news.”
Russell was also sent to the Nationwide Series hauler were he met with Joe Balash, the series director. Russell claims that Balash said the team may head to Fontana as planned but offered little other insight on what else may have been said.
Kuykendall wasted no time in commenting that he and Cobb had left 2nd Chance, making tweets during the race. Cobb said that she had already spoken to another Nationwide regular team about a part time ride that could get her a car for next weeks race. No word on who may have made the offer but it’s expected that Kuykendall would be on top of the pit box.
During the race Russell attempted to have Kuykendall arrested when he attempted to get some personal belongs of Cobbs from the team trailer. Eventually the items were returned. Russell is planning legal action against Cobb and Kuykendall for break of contract stating that Cobb also owes him money for car parts.
