Despite baby Kenseth will not miss race

The number of babies born to NASCAR drivers on days of the week that are not Sunday is amazing. On a near monthly basis we hear that a driver and his wife are expecting. We also hear about how another driver will drive the race car on Sunday if necessary. After the race happens on Sunday the baby is born during the week.

Matt Kenseth and his wife Katie are expecting to welcome another baby this month, but Kenseth will not miss any race time. Kenseth and Roush Fenway Racing said that the former Cup Champion will be behind the wheel of the #17 Crown Royal Ford Fusion on Sundays. That’s not to say they haven’t sought out substitute drivers for practice sessions.

Kenny Wallace will be on hand to fill in for Kenseth during the days leading up to the Daytona 500. Wallace could test the car, drive in the Budweiser Shootout and Gatorade duels if necessary. Brian Ickler, who appeared in some Nationwide races in the #16 last year, will fill in at practice during Phoenix and Las Vegas if necessary.
