The release of Trevor Bayne from Michael Waltrip Racing was unpredictable at the time but almost immediately everyone could see the resulting outcome.

Bayne was signed by team owner Jack Roush to run the remainder of the NASCAR Nationwide Series and there were even reports that Bayne may run a third car at Richard Petty Motorsports next season.

While all that news was great for backers of the 19-year old the truth is many just wanted to know when he would make his debut at the Cup level. Rumbles began that he may race the #21 Wood Brothers machine at Texas a few weeks ago and now it’s official.

Current driver Bill Elliott will step aside for the youngster and act as a mentor as he prepares for his cup debut. By racing at Texas NASCAR will allow Bayne to compete in next seasons Daytona 500.
