Non Roster Invitee: Garret Anderson – Dodgers

Posted by John On March - 17 - 2010

Garret Anderson comes back to Los Angeles. It just happens to be with the Dodgers instead of the Angels. The 16-year veteran played for the Angels the first 15 years of his career before heading to Atlanta last year. With the change to Dodgers Anderson is also trying new things the most notable one being a first basemen glove.

The Dodgers also have Doug Mientkiewicz trying to make the team again this year and it may ultimately come down to which player has the hot hand this spring for what appears to be one roster spot.

The Dodgers biggest concern is whether to keep Blake DeWitt in the majors or to send him back to Triple-A. DeWitt, 25, has yet to show he’s worthy of a big league roster space for the course of a season. Chin-lung Hu on the other hand is almost certainly headed back down and it’s unclear if the Dodgers are serious about keeping Jason Repko on the 25 man roster or not. Should all three go down it’s likely both Anderson and Mientkiewicz find themselves on the opening day roster.

Anderson’s one year in Atlanta was more of a jail sentence for both sides. Never known for drawling a walk and with knees that have already faded away Anderson’s time in Atlanta is more likely a reflection of things to come rather then a hiccup. His batting average tumbled 25 points last year down to a career low of .268 and just 8 times in his career has his OBP topped .330 (and two of those times consist of 1994 in which he had 13 at-bats and 1995 in which he had 374).

If Anderson makes the roster it’s because he makes contact this spring and his past contributions. He’s not a regular option in the outfield and his acceptance of playing first base from time to time only allows for the occasional off day for James Loney.

At 37 years of age it’s clear there’s not much left in the tank but there are certainly worse options out there for a roster spot.

Garret Anderson may play in 2010

Posted by John On January - 28 - 2010

MLB: Angels v Rangers September 26, 2007Considering I hadn’t heard his name since the 2009 season ended I figured Garret Anderson may be headed for retirement. Anderson apparently is being looked at by the Los Angeles Dodgers as a fourth outfielder.

As the left fielder of the Atlanta Braves the 37 year old hit .268/.303/.410 with 13 homers and 61 RBI. Anderon has regressed largely since his prime days in Anaheim and would best be kept out of the field.

Should he land with the Dodgers Xavier Paul and Jason Repko would figure to battle it out for the final spot in the outfield.

A fan favorite during his time with the Angels, you have to give Anderson some credit for realizing he’s not an everyday player anymore.

Secrets out, Manny stays with Dodgers

Posted by John On November - 6 - 2009

Manny Ramirez reacts during game three of the NLCS in PhiladelphiaDylan Hernandez of the L.A. Times reports on his Twitter account that Manny Ramirez has exercised his $20 million player option for 2010 and will return to the Dodgers.

Ramirez who was pursued only by the Dodgers last winter settled for a one year deal last year with a player option for 2010 at $20 million, and considering he’s 38 years old, it would be best if he didn’t even appear in the outfield, and the economy still sucks there’s no surprise that Ramirez has choose to return to the Dodgers.

Ramirez missed 50 games last year due to a PED suspension, you know the deal where he was taking women fertility drugs and stuff cause he had pretty much killed his testicles from all the steroids he took over the course of his career.

Whether or not Manny can in fact bare a child remains to be seen but in the 104 games he did play in he hit 16 homers and drove in 63 RBI while compiling a .290/.418/.531 line which of course keeps him towards the top of the list when it comes to right handed hitters in baseball.

I don’t normally like to bash athletes but you could probably tell I was less then thrilled about writing about Manny Ramirez. Frankly I think Manny Ramirez is a douchebag. He got paid $20 million last season missed 1/3 of the year and still gets $20 million to play in 2010 because he cried so much prior to the 2009 season about wanting a three year deal. Not a single stat the man has put up can I even suspect of being legit, yes he even surpasses Barry Bonds on that level as it’s believed Bonds was at-least clean for a few years while in Pittsburgh.

Despite 17 years in the major leagues, a course of English classes paid for the Cleveland Indians, and even a stupid ceremony in which Ramirez became an American citizen and frankly you have about the most clueless mother fucker to ever talk. He has no idea of what he just said and no direction to what he will even say next. Even worse despite being Manny Ramirez’s brain is obviously controlled by a retarded hamster on crack. I know mama said to not say nothing if you aint got something nice to say about someone but mama never had to watch or hear about Manny Ramirez.
