Robert Griffin III will not play Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons, nor will he play the the other two games left on the teams schedule.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m sure everybody knows by know that coach decided to shut me down for the rest of the season,\u201d Griffin said. \u201cI expressed my desire to play. At the end of the day, coach\u2019s decision is what we go with. That\u2019s the way it\u2019s always been. It\u2019s my job to help Kirk win.\u201d<\/p>\n

It was announced on Wednesday afternoon that the Washington Redskins had decided to start Kirk Cousin’s in lieu of Griffin,<\/a> a move that many where expecting to lead to the end of Mike Shanahan’s \u00a0coaching job in Washington. Instead, according to a team source, \u00a0team owner\u00a0Dan Snyder said he would not\u00a0\u00a0intervene with Shanahan\u2019s decision to make a switch at quarterback.<\/p>\n

Whether he coaches or is fired before next season Shanahan is owed $7 million in 2014.<\/p>\n

Shanahan said during a press conference on Monday that he flat out was considering benching the quarterback for his own safety.\u00a0Griffin being benched comes after he had\u00a024 sacks in the past five games.<\/p>\n

‘We\u2019ll rise out of this. I believe that, and I hope everybody else does, too.\u00a0You have to keep it rolling. I\u2019ll make sure I\u2019m there for Kirk, that I\u2019m there for this team in any way I can.\u201d Griffin said.<\/p>\n
