Bucs tried to trade him but couldn&#39;t.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AdamSchefter\/statuses\/385830045849092097\">October 3, 2013<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>After an 0-3 start with Freeman the Buccaneers benched him prior to last weeks game.<\/p>\n<p>Freeman missed the <a title=\"Josh Freeman overslept missing Buccaneers team photo\" href=\"http:\/\/tireball.com\/nfl\/2013\/09\/13\/josh-freeman-overslept-missing-buccaneers-team-photo\/\">teams photo<\/a> after he was passed over for a captain role on the team. Later news leaked, possibility from Tampa Bay, that Freeman had entered the NFL&#8217;s substance abuse program and on Tuesday the quarterback was kept out of a team meeting.<\/p>\n<p>No team was willing to pull off a trade for Freeman but now that he is a free agent someone may take a gamble on him as a backup going forward.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have released quarterback Josh Freeman.
