The Buffalo Bills could have signed or traded for someone other than A.J. McCarron but for a team expected to use an early draft pick on a quarterback, signing the former Cincinnati Bengal to a two-year deal feels right.<\/p>\n
McCarron could have been a member of the Cleveland Browns had a trade not been bungled at the deadline. He later won a case earning himself free agency from the Bengals based on service time.<\/p>\n
Now ironically McCarron heads to the Bills to replace Tyrod Taylor – a player the Browns acquired during a flurry of trades on a week ago.<\/p>\n
McCarron will get a chance to finally step into a starters role but he’s not about to be grossly overpaid like Mike Glennon was a year ago. Glennon got a guaranteed $18.5 millon from the Bears prior to the team drafting Mitch Trubisky. Glennon, who was released by the Bears on Wednesday, signed a two-year deal worth $8 million with the Cardinals.<\/p>\n
The Bills will pay McCarron $10 million over his two-year deal. This is a back-up deal for a player that is viewed by most teams as a back-up. His deal holds another $6.5 million in incentives.<\/p>\n
How much McCarron sees the field is up for debate but paying back-up money to a player for a position a team figures to address in the draft just makes sense. McCarron is not suddenly going to make the Bills a force in the AFC East but he could be serviceable if trust into playing time.
