{"id":15755,"date":"2018-02-04T15:56:37","date_gmt":"2018-02-04T20:56:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tireball.com\/nfl\/?p=15755"},"modified":"2018-02-04T15:56:37","modified_gmt":"2018-02-04T20:56:37","slug":"colts-linebacker-killed-by-drunk-driver-on-i-70","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/tireball.com\/nfl\/2018\/02\/04\/colts-linebacker-killed-by-drunk-driver-on-i-70\/","title":{"rendered":"Colts linebacker killed by drunk driver on I-70"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-15756\" src=\"http:\/\/tireball.com\/nfl\/files\/2018\/02\/edwinjackson.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"622\" height=\"411\" srcset=\"http:\/\/tireball.com\/nfl\/files\/2018\/02\/edwinjackson.jpg 622w, http:\/\/tireball.com\/nfl\/files\/2018\/02\/edwinjackson-300x198.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 622px) 100vw, 622px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson, who had earned the nickname &#8220;Pound Cake&#8221;, died Sunday morning after being hit a by suspected drunk driver on Interstate 70.<\/p>\n<p>According to Indiana State Police, Jackson was one of two people killed after a crash shortly before 4 a.m. Jackson and 54-year-old Jeffrey Monroe of Avon were standing near a stopped vehicle when a Ford F-150 driven by Alex Cabrera Gonsales drove onto the emergency shoulder and struck them both.<\/p>\n<p>Jackson was 26.<\/p>\n<p>In addition of suspected driving while under the influence, Gonsales was driving on a suspended license and attempted to flee the scene after the accident. He was apprehended by police.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is believed Gonsales was intoxicated and was driving without a license,&#8221; Sgt. John Perrine said in a statement. &#8220;He was transported to the Marion County Jail, the result of the test for intoxication is pending.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Jackson spent 2016 on the practice squad for the Colts and had been placed on injured reserve in September of 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Colts owner Jim Irsay tweeted the following message about Jackson, &#8220;Our hearts and prayers are with Edwin Jackson\u2019s family. Terrific young man, respected and liked by all. Rest In Peace, Edwin.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">It is with a heavy heart that we share the loss of one of our own.<\/p>\n<p>Edwin Jackson always brought a smile to our locker room and the community.
