\nAfter years of being the handcuff to Alfred Morris, Redskins running back Roy Helu Jr. is heading towards free agency.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m very excited,\u201d Helu Jr. about his future. \u201cBecause it\u2019s the first time I\u2019ve gone into an offseason where I get to see what else is out there and I\u2019m not restricted to a rookie pay scale.\u201d<\/p>\n

Helu Jr. told the Redskins team website that \u201cthere\u2019s great possibilities out there,\u201d but did not rule out a \u201cwant to be back, simple as that.\u201d <\/p>\n

Limited to just 40 carries this season Morris is looking for a larger role in free agency. While it is unlikely any team will turn to him as their lead back, he could find himself working a timeshare which could end up paying quite well. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll probably look into [free agency] for the benefit of my family\u2019s future,\u201d he said. \u201cBut at the same time I had a great experience these last four years and if I\u2019m back that\u2019d be amazing. But it\u2019s two parties that\u2019d have to get together and have a common goal in mind.\u201d<\/p>\n

In four seasons with the Redskins, the 5-foot-11, 215-pound running back has carried the ball 255 times for 1,132 yards and seven touchdowns adding 129 receptions for 1,152 yards and three touchdowns as a receiving option out of the backfield.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
