The Oakland Raiders have agreed to pay a $1.25 million settlement to the teams cheerleaders following a lawsuit filed earlier this year saying that the team failed to pay them minimum wage.<\/p>\n

An agreement reached on Thursday covers more than 90 women who were employed by the Raiders between 2010 and 2013 reports KQED<\/a>.<\/p>\n

According to the lawsuit,\u00a0\u00a0the cheerleaders\u2019 salary of $125 per home game, or $1,250 per season, worked out to less than $5 an hour. Both fall below the $8 minimum wage for California.<\/p>\n

The Raiders also were alleged to have failed to pay overtime, withheld pay to the end of the season and required the cheerleaders\u00a0to pay their own business expenses. The Raiders are also said to not have provided breaks or meals.<\/p>\n

The settlement will pay each Raiderette an average of $6,000 for each season worked between 2010 and 2012, and $2,500 for the 2013-2014 season.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe hope that as a result of the settlement, teams across the NFL will look at their policies and practices and change them,\u201d Sharon Vinick, one of the lawyers representing the Raiderettes, said.<\/p>\n
