On Sunday the team and Smith reached agreement on a contract extension.<\/p>\n<p>Counting the $8 million he was owed this season, Smith is set up to earn $76 million over the next five seasons for an average of $15.2 million annually. Smith&#8217;s new deal is worth more guaranteed and carries a higher annual salary &#8211; $1.3 million more than Dalton.<\/p>\n<p>The Chiefs figure to continue to rely on their ground game with running back Jamaal Charles again penciled for a heavy workload.
