Patriots to meet with Steven Jackson, calm down he’s out of work for a reason

The Patriots lost LaGarrette Blount for the season to a hip injury leaving the team scrambling to find additional running backs to fill out their roster.

One name which has been linked to the Patriots is Steven Jackson.

A former member of the Rams and Falcons the 32-year-old Jackson has not played in an NFL game this season. The aging former star had eight straight 1,000 yard seasons from 2005-12 but has fallen off the map over the last two seasons.

He could be a name to fill the Patriots roster behind Brandon Bolden and James White. Montee Ball, 25, signed with the Patriots practice squad on Tuesday. The former second round pick would reason to have more in the tank given his age.

Ball flamed out with the Broncos in part because he was not a good pass blocker, something the team knew when drafting him. Still he was expected to protect Peyton Manning and when he failed to he was removed from the playing field.

Meanwhile Jackson as a member of the Falcons looked nothing like the former Rams star. At age 32 he’s in the twilight of his career at a position which falls off a cliff at the age of 30, just ask Frank Gore another back the age of Jackson who has failed to produce this season.

Jackson was not on a roster for a reason, the same could be said for Ball.
