Browns expect Johnny Manziel to be ready for offseason workouts

Johnny Manziel should be ready to go when the Cleveland Browns begin offseason workouts on April 20.

Manziel, the No. 22 overall pick from the 2014 draft, checked himself into a rehab facility on Jan, 28 and is headed towards an early April release. Once released, Manziel will contend with Josh McCown to be the starting quarterback of the Browns.

If Manziel can better grasp the Browns playbook he would figure to be given the nod over McCown who looked just as confused while trying to lead the Tampa Bay Buccaneers a season ago.

Manziel was just 18 of 35 for 175 yards with two interceptions in his limited action a year ago. He scored one rushing touchdown on nine carries that went for 29 yards but largely sat on the bench behind now departed journeyman Brian Hoyer.
