Derek Anderson will get the start for the Panthers this weekend against the Buccaneers but the team is hopeful that starter Cm Newton will return for Week 16.
Newton was injured after rolling his truck a few blocks away from Bank of America Stadium earlier this week. His injury is not considered to be serious and is just day to day. He has two back fractures.
Anderson led the Panthers to a win over this same Buccaneers team in Week 1.
The bad news for the Panthers is that Newton is coming off perhaps his best game of the season in which he was 21-of-33 for 226 yards while throwing three touchdowns. He added another 83 yards on the ground and a score against the Saints last week.
