Derek Carr deserves to start Week 1, makes Raiders decision easy

If the Oakland Raiders were still looking for a reason to start Derek Carr in Week 1 they got it in Thursday’s preseason finale against Seattle.

Carr was a stunning 11-of-13 for 143 yards and three touchdowns leading the Raiders to a series of touchdowns in a convincing first half of play against the Seahawks.

Drafted in the second round Carr placed the heat on Matt Schaub the moment he was drafted. Things have gotten no better for 33-year-old Schaub who was acquired for a seventh round pick from the Houston Texans.

Now dealing with tendinitis, Schaub has shown a lack of arm strength this preseason.

Soon the Raiders will confirm what everyone else already knows. Carr gives them the best chance to win. Had Schaub shown anything this preseason the idea having him start for a few weeks could had been viable.

Carr figures to be joined by the likes of Blake Bortles, Johnny Manziel and Teddy Bridgewater as rookie quarterbacks who will make their NFL debuts this season.
