The Houston Texans have uncertainty at the quarterback position. With Ryan Fitzpatrick showing little thus far the Texans could be forced to make a switch relatively quick this season.
While Case Keenum appeared set to begin the season at No. 2 on the depth chart Texans head coach Bill O’Brien suggested on Sunday that rookie Tom Savage could move ahead of him prior to the start of the season.
“I would say it’s pretty close,” O’Brien said, via ESPN. “I think it’s pretty close. We’re discussing that right now.”
A fourth-round pick, Savage opened eyes when he led a 74-yard touchdown drive to win Houston’s third preseason game against Denver.
“We broke the huddle, and as a young quarterback when the referee leans into the huddle and he winds the clock you’ve got to get going, so he probably could have called the play before the referee wound the clock,” O’Brien said. “So he ended up calling the play and then having to break the huddle, and it involved some motion and shifting and things like that. ”
