The plan may have been for Blake Bortles to spend the season as the backup to Chad Henne but after Friday nights showing the bar has been set.
Bortles – drafted third overall – put together a strong showing completing 7-of-11 passes for 117 yards.
Chad Henne started Friday’s contest against Tampa Bay relegating Bortles to duty against the Buccaneers second team defense.
The Jaguars do not figure to alter their plan to start Henne in the regular season opener but moments like this will give Bortles hope for seeing time under center should the incumbent struggle in September.
