Blaine Gabbert struggles in preseason opener

How much one can get from preseason openers is up for debate. However, when it comes to Blaine Gabbert a poor performance is never good.

Gabbert was acquired by the San Francisco 49ers in a trade earlier this year. Listed as the No. 2 quarterback on the 49ers depth chart the team guaranteed his $2 million salary for the 2014 season.

On Thursday night he was 3-of-11 for 20 yards and an interception against the Baltimore Ravens.

Only 24, Gabbert could be on his last go around in the NFL.

“I thought a couple balls slipped out of his hand,” coach Jim Harbaugh said after the game. “A throw he’d like to have back on the interception. He did a good job running the team. He did a good job getting us in and out the huddle and getting us in the right play.”

Josh Johnson was used later to relieve Gabbert but he failed to produce any points for the offense as well.

This is just another reminder that the 49ers offense all depends on the arm and legs of starter Colin Kaepernick.
