50 senators now want Redskins to change name

Soccer: Friendly-Brazil at USA

The fallout the Donald Sterling tape recordings could force the Washington Redskins to change their name.

In the wake of Sterling’s racially charged remarks, 50 members of US Senate have signed a letter to the NFL urging the Redskins to change their name.

Pure and simple. The Redskins are getting a new name whether you like it or not. There do not appear to be any good reasons for keeping the current nickname other than the its the way it has always been line. Meanwhile the number of high profile people clamoring for a name change is only growing.

“The NFL can no longer ignore this and perpetuate the use of this name as anything but what it is: a racial slur,” said the letter, via the New York Times. “… “We urge you and the National Football League to send the same clear message as the N.B.A. did: that racism and bigotry have no place in professional sports.”

So anyone want to take a  guess on when the name change will happen? I’d say shortly after the Super Bowl… just a guess.
