Seneca Wallace latched on with the San Francisco 49ers near the end of the preseason but the ten year veteran has seen the last of the playing field.

Wallace, 33, is retiring from the NFL.

Days after Wallace was signed by the 49ers, head coach Jim Harbaugh named Colt McCoy the teams backup behind Colin Kaepernick.

Wallace was expected to be one of the 49ers final cuts before the regular season starts and opted not to travel with the team for Thursday’s preseason finale.

“It’s something that was his decision,” Harbaugh told the San Francisco Chronicle. “He felt strongly about it. I don’t talk people out of that. I’ve never seen it done on game day, but I wish him well.”

Wallace did not play in 2012 after being one of the final cuts of the Cleveland Browns.
