Vince Young is back in the NFL as the backup quarterback of the Green Bay Packers.

Young, 30, was signed to a contract by the Packers on Aug. 5 after sitting out the 2012 season. The Packers will pay Young $715,000 for the season under the terms of that contract.

Quickly Young began to impress in camp and after he moved the Packers offense in their third pre-season game head coach Mike McCarthy considered Young the top option for the backup job behind Aaron Rodgers.

“I think you’re just seeing Vince getting more and more comfortable … I think Vince is one of the players that definitely took advantage of his opportunities tonight.”

The Packers confirmed the idea of Young being the backup when they made the decision to release Graham Harrell on Saturday. B.J. Coleman, who was also competing for the backup job, is likely headed to the practice squad.
