Weeden surprised by Browns signing of Hoyer

The Cleveland Browns added Brian Hoyer to their quarter back competition this week and last years starter admitted he was a little surprised by the move.

“I was surprised, but that’s the nature of the beast,” Weeden said via CBS Sports. “It’s part of this business, and if you start worrying about it, that’s too much to worry about.”

The Browns signed Hoyer, 27, after the Cardinals cut him in lieu of paying a salary in excess of $2 million. Browns GM Mike Lombardi was a supporter of Hoyer during the quarterbacks time with New England.

In all likelihood Hoyer is a bigger threat to Jason Campbell on the depth chart.

Last season Hoyer made one start for the Cardinals and appeared in another game as a backup. He finished the season 30-of-56 with 330 yards passing, one touchdown and two interceptions.
