New Browns VP unsure about future of Brandon Weeden

The Cleveland Browns introduced Vice President of Player Personnel Mike Lombardi on Friday. While many are praising the hire of Lombardi by the Browns it will bring questions about the future of quarterback Brandon Weeden. Weeden finished his rookie season with 14 touchdowns and 17 interceptions.

Lombardi has been critical of Weeden in the past and considered their drafting of him with the 22nd overall pick last season a “disaster.” Backup quarterback Colt McCoy was told by team president Jon Banner after the season that he was still in the teams plans for 2013.

“I think it’s gonna take some time to study him, I gotta go back through and watch practice tapes,” Lombardi said. “… It’s gonna take me some time to really formulate my opinions on him.”

Exactly what Lombardi would need to view from Weeden in unknown. There does not figure to be many options in free agency and the upcoming draft class is weak at quarterback.
