The New York Jets interest in Tim Tebow was surprising. Tebow won a slue of improbable games last season for a lackluster Denver team but with a career completion percentage of 47.5% he had only proven critics that he was not a traditional passer.
Thus far the Jets have kept Tim Tebow on the sidelines for much of the season. While playing in the wildcat formation he has thrown one pass, a 9 yard completion, and run the ball nine times for 38 yards. In fact when the Jets played against San Fransisco it was the 49ers who employed the wildcat with success.
The Tim Tebow experiment has been a disappointment. The Jets have talked about incorporating Tebow into their game plan more but does anyone really think Mark Sanchez will ever throw him a pass? Further should Tebow be given the option to pass the Jets are in a lose-lose situation.
If Tebow struggles to throw out of the wildcat they expose the fraud they have built up all season. They further cement the notion that Tebow is nothing more then a player trying to run a gimmick.
Should Tebow be successful throwing the ball the Jets will face heat to replace Sanchez with him. A few completions to keep Tebow in the neighborhood of the 50% completion percentage is all fans and media alike will need to question why the Jets do not give full reign of their offense to No. 15.
Regardless of who is under center for the Jets it is a difficult team to quarterback for. The team lost their top receiver in Santonio Holmes and overall the team has just 86.5 yards of rushing per game which places then 25th in the NFL.
To make matters worse for the Jets tonight is the Houston Texans defense. The Texans are the league’s top scoring defense, having allowed only 56 points in four games. That is not a good sign for a team that was shutout last week against the 49ers.
