Elarton last pitched in the majors in June of 2008 with Cleveland.<\/p>\n<p>Once considered part of a trio of pitchers who were going to change the Houston Astros, Elarton has largely been ineffective since his 17 win season of 2000.<\/p>\n<p>Elarton won 17 games in 2000 with a 4.81 ERA and a 1.46 ERA while pitching 192.2 innings. The wins, 131 strike outs and 192.2 innings pitched were all career highs for Elarton who has gone 28-48 with a 5.91 ERA and a 1.49 WHIP since.<\/p>\n<p>It goes without saying that the Astros offense, who ranked second in runs scored in the NL in 2000, was the key ingredient in Elarton&#8217;s 2000 campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Needless to say I&#8217;m not giving Elarton the endorsement I gave Mike MacDougal yesterday as I simply don&#8217;t see any way he helps the White Sox or any major league team this season or any season.<\/p>\n<p>Sure he could be used to fill a role in Triple-A and if something was to happen tragically in the White Sox bullpen Elarton could at-least throw some innings but don&#8217;t expect the results to be pretty.<\/p>\n<p>Seriously were Jose Rosado, Jim Parque and Tom Martin unavailable?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Scott Elarton has been signed to a minor league contract by the Chicago White Sox.
