Kasey Kahne qualified on the pole. Quite a few of the drivers taking part
in the Nationwide race were also taking part in the Brickyard 400 the
following day.

The green flag was thrown at 4.52 P.M, Kyle Busch beat Kasey Kahne to the line… there were talks of Busch jumping the restart but no mention of it by NASCAR.

One of the reasons that NASCAR might not of penalized Busch was because of the competition caution thrown at Lap 16 to check tire wear and make setup adjustments.

On lap 39, Danica Patrick turned Reed Sorenson. He turned back up the track during the crash and Patrick’s car ran right into him. The hard crash sent Patrick to the garage for the day. Sorenson parked his car ten laps later.

Kyle Busch driver of the No.54 Monster Energy Toyota had the race in his hands until his spin in Turn 1 on lap 79 brought out the fifth caution of the day. He just wasn’t able to get back to the front. Kyle Busch lead 51 of the first 75 laps but ended up finishing the race in 22nd position.

Brad Keselowski, driver of the No. 22 Discount Tire Dodge for Roger Penske won the inaugural Indy 250 at the Brickyard. He said “I’ve been watching races here since I was a kid in Michigan,” “Everybody knows how special Indy is, and any win you can have here, whether it’s the 500 or the Brickyard here, the first Nationwide race — every race is special.”

The win was number 100 in NASCAR for Roger Penske and number 23 for Brad Keselowski in his Nationwide career.

Keselowski’s win came after a very controversial restart on lap 83 as Austin Dillion pushed him to the lead,NASCAR through the black flag and ordered Sadler to have a stop and go pit stop. Sadler said that Keselowski had spun his tires. He was very upset and radioed to his crew, ” “It’s so wrong to penalize me for a mistake they made,” “NASCAR just took the championship away from me. They just took the damn championship right out of our hands.”

Sadler was put at the end of the lead lap cars, got through traffic and ended up finishing the race in 15th position. Sadler’s point lead for the NASCAR Nationwide Championship is only 1 point over teammate Dillion.

Sam Hornish Jr finished second, followed by Ty Dillion, Denny Hamlin and Austin Dillion to round out the top five.

It was a full weekend for the NASCAR Nationwide drivers at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Starting on Thursday they had a full day of practice, Friday seemed to offer the only real “off day” that they were going to see, but many schedules were filled with sponsor appearances around the city.
