Jimmie Johnson is in danger of missing the playoffs. In an effort to restart the season, Hendricks Motorsports has made a crew chief change in the No. 48 Chevrolet.<\/p>\n
Cliff Daniels has been tabbed to replace Kevin Meendering.<\/p>\n
Meendering’s season as Johnson’s crew chief was a difficult one which saw the seven-time champion score his first stage win last weekend at Pocono.<\/p>\n
There are five races left prior to the start of the playoffs.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have great confidence in Cliff\u2019s ability to win races with Jimmie and the team,\u201d said Hendrick Motorsports owner Rick Hendrick in a statement. \u201cHe\u2019s a natural leader and tremendously talented from both a technical and communication standpoint. Cliff\u2019s familiarity with Jimmie and the No. 48 team culture will benefit us a ton. He will bring the spark that\u2019s been our missing ingredient.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Meendering will remain with Hendrick Motorsports in a senior competition role.<\/span> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n \u201cKevin is a talent,\u201d Hendrick said in a statement. \u201cWe have areas where he can make a major impact and help all four of our teams be successful. Everyone thinks the world of him, and we plan to keep him as a key member of our organization for as long as he wants to be here.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Said Johnson in a statement from the team: \u201cCliff has really shined since he came back to the 48. When he returned, there was an immediate change in the team dynamic that all of us felt. We\u2019ve worked together for a long time, have a ton of mutual respect and a shared vision. I have no doubt the strong connection and working relationship is going to pay dividends right away.<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m so grateful to Kevin. He\u2019s a truly awesome person who I think very, very highly of. I\u2019m looking forward to continuing to work with him in his new role.
