Rookie Daniel Hemric led a Chevrolet brigade at the top of the leaderboard during the first Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series practice at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Thursday afternoon.<\/p>\n

Hemric was followed by Chase Elliott and William Byron before the first Toyota of Kyle Busch placed fourth. Another Chevrolet with Jimmie Johnson was fifth followed by the first Ford driven by Ricky Stenhouse Jr.<\/p>\n

Qualifying for the Coca-Cola 600 takes place Thursday evening.<\/p>\n
