Back then it was not uncommon for sponsors to pay upwards of $20 million for a full season of decals on a car. Nearly two decades later an exodus of sponsors has left teams trying to patch together deals in order to have full season funding.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">It&#8217;s been an incredible partnership and I&#8217;m so thankful to have been a part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Lowes?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@Lowes<\/a> family for 18 years <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/VJjYSNLqKq\">https:\/\/t.co\/VJjYSNLqKq<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Jimmie Johnson (@JimmieJohnson) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JimmieJohnson\/status\/974013118480175104?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 14, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Home Depot <a href=\"http:\/\/tireball.com\/nascar\/2014\/06\/23\/home-depot-leaving-nascar-at-end-of-2014\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">left NASCAR after the 2014 season,<\/a> Target left prior to this season and companies such as UPS, Subway and Dollar General are other examples of big name stores who simply could not continue to foot the bill for a racecar.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWorking with Hendrick Motorsports, Jimmie, Chad (Knaus) and the entire No. 48 team has been an incredible journey,\u201d said Michael P. McDermott, Lowe\u2019s chief customer officer. \u201cRick Hendrick and his organization have been exceptional partners, and we could not have asked for more from Jimmie \u2013 a consummate champion and an incredible representative for our brand and his sport.<\/p>\n<p>The No. 11 driven by Denny Hamlin has sponsorship from FedEx for 34 of the 36 races this season while Kyle Busch&#8217;s No. 18 has sponsorship for 30 races from Mars Brands.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are so appreciative of everyone at Lowe\u2019s. They have been amazing partners,\u201d said Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports. \u201cWith seven championships, this program has delivered far beyond what anyone could have imagined. It goes without saying that we will fully support Lowe\u2019s and our program together in 2018 as we pursue another championship.
