The 2.5-mile Daytona International Speedway could soon be hosting football games as part of a $400 million renovation project.<\/p>\n

This is not the first fans have heard about college football games at the site of the Great American Race, the Daytona 500. In January reports first surfaced that the track hoped to see football games played there.<\/p>\n

Similarly Bristol Motor Speedway will host a game between the Tennessee Volunteers and Virginia Tech Hokies on Sept. 10,\u00a02016. Estimates have upwards of 160,000 fans attending that contest.<\/p>\n

While Daytona’s aim seems to be college football there is a chance that the track could host a preseason game featuring the Jacksonville Jaguars.<\/p>\n

“We\u2019ve not had a formal discussion with the Jags here but we\u2019ve got some great relationships,” track\u00a0president Joie Chitwood said. “I know Mark Lamping, their president, and we\u2019ve done some nice things where he\u2019s participated in some sports conferences in Daytona. I\u2019ve come up and visited some games with those guys. There\u2019s always an opportunity.”<\/div>\n
