Biffle has only driven for RFR during his NASCAR Sprint Cup career which first began in 2002. News about Biffle has been quiet, almost too quiet.

It had been assumed that Biffle would simply re-sign with RFR after-all that is what happened last time after 3M re-signed with the driver. That may not be the case this time.

This past weekend at Charlotte it was announced that Trevor Bayne would move up to the Sprint Cup level full-time in 2014. That move immediately raised questions about the future of current RFR drivers Biffle and Carl Edwards, who also is in the final year of his deal.

“I think there’s plenty of opportunities in the industry to be in competitive cars,” Biffle said in interview on SiriusXM Radio at the beginning of May. “I enjoy being at Roush Fenway. I love 3M. We have a great relationship and the program works really, really well for 3M … Plain and simple, I’ve got options. I know I’m going to be racing. I know I’m going to be driving a car. So I’m not worried.”

And since that time all has gone quiet. Not exactly what you would expect from two sides trying to work out a new deal.

According to Amy Henderson of Frontstretch, “Sources claim the driver’s plans lie elsewhere for 2015, that he is actively seeking other employment and that the feeling is mutual. One link in particular, direct to the Roush organization who wished to remain anonymous said he’s been told the future for Biffle involves “anything but” RFR, the only NASCAR team he’s really driven for.”

That is far from a guarantee that Biffle and Roush are set to part ways but it does not paint a positive picture.

It was just two years ago that news broke of Matt Kenseth leaving the RFR team. Kenseth won the organization it’s first Cup Series title in 2003 and had been assumed to be simply re-signing with the team before word broke of a deal between the driver and Joe Gibbs Racing.

Of course if Biffle did leave the bigger question is where would he land? Without expansion at JGR or Team Penske it is hard to envision him getting a better ride than the one he currently occupies behind the wheel of the No. 16 Ford Fusion.

Biffle is a 19 time winner in the Cup series.

Greg Biffle is in the final year of his contract with Roush Fenway Racing.
