Chase Elliott running Xfinity Series race at Daytona in JRM car

Chase Elliott returns to the NASCAR Xfinity Series during the season opening race at Daytona International Speedway. Elliott will drive the No. 8 Chevrolet Camaro of JR Motorsports.

An announcement came on Thursday from the team. The 2014 Xfinity Series champion will be the first driver of the No. 8 car this season picking up sponsorship from AfterShokz headphone brand for the NASCAR Racing Experience 300 on Feb. 16 at the 2.5-mile Daytona track.

“I’m looking forward to getting back behind the wheel for JRM in Daytona,” Elliott said in a team release. “Kelley, Dale and the entire organization have been so great to work with over the years. We won this race back in 2016 and this year we’re looking to get back into victory lane with AfterShokz.”

Elliott has five wins in 80 starts for JRM. His last win came in the 2016 season opener. Thus far the No. 8 car is scheduled for 24 races this season with Taylor Moyer to be the crew chief for a revolving door of drivers that includes Elliott, Spencer Gallagher, Ryan Preece, Zane Smith, Ryan Truex, Jeb Burton and even Dale Earnhardt Jr.
