The racecar of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Travis Kvapil has gone missing.

Kvapil, 38, was set to compete in the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Sunday but his trailer and car were stolen from an area hotel prior to arriving at the 1.58-mile track.

The car was being kept in a 26-foot trailer which was taken from a hotel in Morrow, Georgia on Friday morning. The team and car arrived at the hotel around 11:00 pm ET and hotel surveillance shows the trailer being stolen at 5:32 pm ET by a driver of a silver or grey Jeep Cherokee.

“I just can’t believe it. I’m sure that whoever stole it had no idea they were getting a Cup car and a spare engine,” Kvapil said. “There’s a lot of money inside that little trailer right now. For the team’s sake and John Cohen’s sake, hopefully the parts and pieces can be recovered or it will be a really huge setback for the team.”

Kvapil did not compete in the season opening Daytona 500.

“While this is obviously a setback for this weekend, our plans remain to compete in the 2015 NASCAR Sprint Cup season,” said team owner John Cohen. “We are working closely with the Morrow police in hopes that our truck, trailer and race car are safely returned.”
