Carl Edwards and Greg Biffle both leaving Roush Fenway?

Roush Fenway Racing has two drivers in the final year of their contracts with the team. The conventional wisdom had been that one of Carl Edwards or Greg Biffle would return to the organization but following a race weekend at Dover there is reason to believe that both could be elsewhere in 2014.

No one is talking publicly about any deals involving the two drivers which has allowed the rumor mill to spin.

The hottest rumor currently has Biffle joining Michael Waltrip Racing, assuming the seat of the third team for the 2015 season. An awkward question and answer segment between brothers Darrel and Michael Waltrip prior to Sunday’s running of the FedEx 400 gave the impression that MWR was certainly in play.

Co-Owner Rob Kauffman did his best to add fuel to the fire as well.

Currently MWR fields two full-time cars for drivers Clint Bowyer and Brian Vickers. A third part-time team is shared with Jay Robinson Racing.

Biffle moving to MWR hardly means a return of Edwards to Roush. The seemingly yearly talk of Edwards joining Joe Gibbs Racing is back. Under that scenario the Toyota run team would have to expand to a fourth team, something they have been reluctant to do thus far.

Edwards has been one of NASCAR’s more marketable stars and the belief may be that if the team can land the driver than sponsors will follow.
