After three hours of the Rolex 24 on Saturday a horrific crash took place. Memo Gidley slammed into the rear of a nearly stopped Matteo Malucelli who had just reported a loss of power in his car.

After Gidley was removed from his car both drivers were taken to Halifax Medical Center.

Below is the IMSA Statement from Sunday

Memo Gidley, driver of the No. 99 GAINSCO / Bob Stallings Racing Corvette DP, underwent surgical procedures on both his left arm and left leg at Halifax Health in Daytona Beach, Fla. Gidley also has an unstable fracture in his back which will require additional surgery before he can be released from the hospital. He continues to be evaluated.

Matteo Malucelli, driver of the No. 62 Risi Competizione Ferrari 458 Italia, remained at Halifax Health overnight for further evaluation. He continues to rest comfortably. An update on his condition will be provided later today.

The 24 Hours of Daytona was red flagged for almost 90 minutes, the first red flag since heavy rain in 2004. While the race was red flagged the time still counted meaning we are still set for a finish at 2:10 pm ET. (make sure to tune in before if you want to see the end.)
