David Ragan to drive car hauler to Sonoma

STATESVILLE, N.C. — David Ragan, driver of the No. 34 Taco Bell Ford for Front Row Motorsports will be playing double duty this weekend, going into Sonoma, the first of two road courses on the Sprint Cup schedule.

Ragan though, will not be doing it so traditionally. Unlike some drivers who are known to race in multiple series over the course of a weekend, Ragan is doing something a little different.

Ragan will be behind the drivers seat of the teams hauler starting on Tuesday. He will share part of the 42 hour driving time with team truck driver, Mike Smith.

“I’ve always had a fascination with big trucks,” Ragan said. “I wanted to get my CDL (commercial driver’s license), so I got that a little while ago. And I thought it would be fun to take a trip across the country on the open roads and see everything, and at the same time get to spend some time with my truck driver.”

Ragan received his commercial learner’s permit last year and earned his full provisional CDL several months ago.

After the long drive, Ragan will race at Sonoma on Sunday for the Toyota Save Mart 350. Ragan was asked if he would drive back to Charlotte after the race, in which he replied, “I’ll be taking a plane home.”

Ragan captured a win for Front Row Motorsports earlier this year at Talladega.
