The No. 24 Chevrolet driven by Jeff Gordon will no longer feature the name DuPont. While the official news came on Tuesday it had been months in the making.

Jeff Gordon won the season finale at Homestead last season, it will forever mark the final race with DuPont on his car. That is not to say that Jeff Gordon is losing sponsorship.

The DuPont paint division has been rebranded as Axalta Coating Sytems. Axalta will sponsor Gordon’s car in 14 Sprint Cup races during the 2013 season.

“While these are big changes for us, our commitment to the No. 24 team, Jeff Gordon and NASCAR remains the same,” said John McCool, president, Axalta Coating Systems. “We are proud to continue our sponsorship of the No. 24 team and Jeff Gordon in 2013.

Gordon has won 87 Cup races and four series titles since joining the series in 1992.

“We may have a new name on the No. 24 Chevrolet SS in 2013, but it’s the same core group that I’ve enjoyed working with for more than 20 years,” Gordon said. “We’ve had success together on and off the track.

The Axalta Coating Systems name will begin appearing on the No. 24 team car in the second quarter of the year, with the first race being in April at Texas.
