This Sunday will mark the 400th career start of NASCAR veteran Dave Blaney. Blaney will strap into the #36 car on Friday evening and attempt to qualify for Sunday’s race.
Ollie’s Bargain Outlet will again sponsor the car and Blaney currently sits 19th in the overall standings after two events. In the 15 years that Blaney has spent at the Sprint Cup level he has accumulated 4 top-5 finishes and 28 top-10’s. He has also recorded two poles.
Blaney was leading this years Daytona 500 when Juan Pablo Montoya ran into a jet dryer under caution. For a moment it looked like Blaney may have scored his first win at the Sprint Cup level but the race was eventually restarted with Matt Kenseth claiming the win.
In 2006 Blaney won the Charlotte Nationwide race while driving for Braun Motorsports. It is his lone win in NASCAR’s top levels. While Blaney is primarily a back of the pack driver in NASCAR he is considered one of the most accomplished drivers on dirt. Blaney won the 1995 World of Outlaws title and still is active in Sprint racing.
