Brian Vickers takes over Reed Sorenson’s ride

Brian Vickers again will drive the 32 car for Turner Motorsports. With primary sponsor Dollar General parting ways with the team at seasons end the team thought now as a good time to part ways with Sorenson who was currently third in the Nationwide standings 49 back of first.

Sorenson has w0n one race this season at Elkhart Lake following an odd chain of events when teammate Justin Allgaier ran out of gas on the final lap under caution.

Vickers has driven the car in the past and will work with Sorenson’s crew chief Trent Ownes.

“I’m not sure what happened,” Sorenson told Moody. “I got a phone call this morning, but they didn’t really say much. All they would say is that I’m out of the car. I haven’t gotten a reason—I’m just as confused as you are.”

I’ve seen drivers lose championships in odd ways before and while Sorenson’s hopes may have turned into long shots, he still had a chance. This is a new one for sure.

Dollar General will sponsor a Joe Gibbs Racing car full time next season on the Nationwide circuit and will also sponsor a car on the Cup side part time next season.
