Counterpoint: Bobby Cox doesn’t deserve an extenion

Atlanta Braves manager Bobby Cox looks into the stands

Were the Braves right to bring Bobby Cox, their manager for the last 19 years, back for the 2010 season knowing it would be his last?

The Braves who have gone 321-327 since their last playoff appearance in 2005 are setting themselves up for a position of a “lame duck” coach, a spot that has not worked well for other teams in recent years.

General Manager Frank Wren is hard pressed to put his stamp on this club and putting the guy he wants in as manager would be the biggest stamp of them all. In much the same way Wren dealt with Tom Glavine, a player Cox likely would have put in the rotation longer then he should have been, he is now dealing with Cox in the same fashion.
