\nThe Marlins have continued their pursuit of free agent first baseman Adam LaRoche.<\/p>\n

According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald<\/a> they have offered LaRoche a two-year deal worth $20 million. Given that Giancarlo Stanton is now locked up on a long-term deal which is heavily back-loaded allows for such an offer. <\/p>\n

The 35-year-old LaRoche is not believed to have had an offers beyond the Marlins so accepting their offer may be his best course of action. LaRoche made $15 million in 2014 as a member of the Nationals. He had his $15 million option for 2015 bought out for $2 million after producing a .259\/.362\/.455 line with 26 home runs and 92 RBI in 140 games.<\/p>\n

In addition to trying to sign LaRoche, the Marlins are also trying to add starting pitching. Two of the names being associated with the Marlins are Justin Masterson and Jason Hammel.<\/p>\n

Masterson began the 2014 season as the Opening Day starter for the Indians before finding his way to the Cardinals. In 2013 he was an All-Star but he struggled to a 5.88 ERA and 1.63 WHIP last season.<\/p>\n

Hammel on the other hand has numerous teams interested in him following a strong season split between the Cubs and Athletics in which he compiled a 3.47 ERA in 176 1\/3 innings. He may wait for the likes of Jon Lester and Max Scherzer to sign before he chooses his destination.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
