This of course is the teams last gasp for trying to re-sign the pitcher and may more or less be an attempt to drive up his trade value.<\/p>\n<p>Gordon Wittenmyer of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.suntimes.com\/sports\/28123847-419\/cubs-talking-again-to-jeff-samardzija-about-multiyear-extension.html#.U6Bg8PldXnj\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Chicago Sun Times<\/a> reports that the Cubs offer is for five years but is north of the previously offered $65 million.<\/p>\n<p>It is clear to everyone in the situation that the time to trade Samardzija is now. The right hander has gotten off to a hot start posting a 2.77 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP in his first 14 starts of the season.
