Currently Fister is dealing with a lat strain which he suffered in his final start of spring training.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo issues,\u201d Williams said about a two inning stint on Thursday afternoon, via <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/blogs\/nationals-journal\/wp\/2014\/04\/17\/doug-fister-pitches-in-extended-spring-training-could-debut-in-roughly-three-weeks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Washington Post<\/a>. \u201cHe felt good about it. Reports are his first inning was better than his second inning, which is a good sign.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Nationals will have Fister begin throwing once every five days as he rebuilds arm strength to join their rotation.<\/p>\n<p>While the ideal day may be May 7 the Nationals are not setting it in stone so to say.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re looking at that time period, somewhere in there,\u201d Williams said. \u201cWe can push him back a day, too, if he\u2019s sore at all or anything like that. So, 20ish days, if all goes well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fister was acquired in the offseason from the Detroit Tigers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rangers release Rafael Perez<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Texas Rangers have released relief pitcher Rafael Perez.<\/p>\n<p>Perez, 31, made four relief appearances at Triple-A Round Rock posting a 7.36 ERA. Recent shoulder problems have zapped the effectiveness of Perez. His previous track record will likely afford him at-least one more chance.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Carlos Martinez could enter rotation for Cardinals<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cardinals manager Mike Mathney has not ruled out Carlos Martinez joining the rotation in light of the recent injury to Joe Kelly.<\/p>\n<p>Should Kelly miss an extended amount of time then Martinez will claim his spot in the rotation.
