\nNew York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira is still trying to get back his form following last year’s surgery on his right wrist.<\/p>\n

Teixeira has struggled this spring and his mechanics are not fully there. The first baseman says it has a lot to do with the trust he does not have in his wrist.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not trusting that the wrist is healthy,\u2019\u2019 Teixeira told The New York Post<\/a> Thursday.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m just trying to protect it,\u2019\u2019 he said. \u201cTaking your \u2018A\u2019 swing, taking that swing that is 100 percent and I need to trust that I can do that and not feel pain. I need to finish my swing instead of protecting my wrist. Last year, to protect my wrist, I didn\u2019t finish my swing.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n

The former All-Star is trying to get his swing back in order and believes things are getting there.<\/p>\n

\u201cOverall, the wrist is feeling good, it\u2019s getting stronger, but I just need to mechanically make sure I\u2019m taking the right swings,\u2019\u2019 he explained.<\/p>\n

Teixeira was limited to 53 at-bats last season hitting just three home runs after averaging 34 home runs across his first four seasons with the Yankees.<\/p>\n

Expectations on Teixeira this season are low, but if the Yankees are going to have any chance to compete in the AL East he will need to return to the form he showed prior to his wrist injury.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
