getty images<\/figcaption><\/figure>New York Mets starting pitcher Jon Niese is feeling lucky that his second MRI in a month has come back clean.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like that piece of paper you stick up on a dart board and guys are throwing a knife at me,\u201d Niese said via the Bergen Record<\/a>. \u201cLuckily for me the guy throwing the knife isn\u2019t a very good shot.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Monday Niese underwent an MRI on his left elbow after he had discomfort in it during Sunday’s spring outing against St. Louis. Niese is expecting to throw on Wednesday but it will not be off the mound.<\/p>\n

\u201c(The MRI) came back real strong and said the UCL is big and strong and no bone arthritis or spurs or anything. All the bones and ligaments are perfect,\u201d Niese said. \u201cThere\u2019s just a little inflammation in between in the back of my elbow.\u201d<\/p>\n

Niese had been named the Mets starter for Opening Day but that has been in question since his injury. There is a good chance that he could start the season on the disabled list.<\/p>\n

Last year’s Opening Day pitcher for the Mets, Niese finished the 2013 season making 24 starts while posting a 3.71 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
