Zack Greinke’s first start of the spring lasted just four pitches. The veteran right hander left Thursday’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks with a strained right calf.<\/p>\n

Los Angeles Dodgers trainer Stan Conte and manager Don Mattingly went to the mound to check on Greinke before he left the game.<\/p>\n

“I think it’s minor, but we’ll see,” Greinke said, via ESPN<\/a>. “I don’t know exactly what it was, but it felt kind of like a cramp.”<\/p>\n

Thus far the Dodgers have only deemed Gerinke’s exit as “precautionary.”<\/p>\n

The Dodgers begin the regular season on March 22 in Australia against the Diamondbacks. \u00a0Currently Mattingly is considering not pitching two-time NL Cy Young winner Clayton Kershaw in either of the games overseas. Dan Haren and Hyun-Jin Ryu are currently the favorites to start.<\/p>\n

Greinke contends that he would have continued to pitch if this was the regular season.<\/p>\n

“Just trying to take care of it since it’s early in spring,” Greinke said. “And, hopefully, it’s not a big deal.”<\/p>\n

Greinke was 15-4 with a 2.63 ERA last season for the Dodgers. He missed five weeks after fracturing his left collarbone in a fight with Carols Quentin of the San Diego Padres.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
