Jim Fregosi spent 53 seasons in professional baseball as a player, coach and scout. Early Friday morning the six-time All-Star passed away from complications of multiple strokes.\u00a0Fregosi had been removed from life support at a Miami hospital on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Jim Fregosi Jr., the oldest son of the 71-year-old Fregosi, told MLB.com his father died at 2:36 a.m. and “went in peace with no pain.”<\/p>\n

Fregosi spent 18 seasons as a player and is best know as the cornerstone of \u00a0a trade hat sent Nolan Ryan to the Angles. His No. 11 was retired by the Angels in 1988.<\/p>\n

As a manager, Fregosi spent 15 seasons with the Angels, White Sox, Phillies and Blue Jays. His teams combined for a 1,028-1,094 record with the Phillies reaching the World Series in 1993.<\/p>\n

Fregosi, who had been with the Braves for the past 13 seasons, was serving as a special assistant to general manager Frank Wren.<\/p>\n

“We have lost a dear friend and a wonderful baseball man,” Braves president John Schuerholz said Thursday in a statement. The Atlanta Braves will truly miss Jim and we send our deepest condolences to his wife, Joni, his entire family and all of his many friends throughout baseball.”<\/p>\n
